On Saturday, May 22, some 120 guests visited the newly-remodeled George Henry White Memorial Health and Education Center for a fundraising barbecue. Not only did they contribute for the delicious plates of barbecue chicken, fish, meatballs, baked beans, dessert cake and bottled soft drinks, but they toured the facility. Viewing the renovations and improvements that have taken place, the visitors spontaneously added to their donations, raising a total of $1,300 which is earmarked for landscaping lights for the garden, flagpole and corridor of memorial stones and plantings. Ocie Jones, local superintendent, organized the event, despite a recent bereavement for his family. Our amazing "home team" prepared the grounds and building, as well as all the food, and conducted the tours through the center. Many of the people who have helped, or who have offered to run programs at the center, were on hand. A beautifully organized event, from all reports, this advances the project further in the ability to serve the entire community. Hats off to all those who made this happen!
